The main thrust of my ceramic work has focused on decorative surface design. Inspiration comes from many varied sources with an affinity to nature predominating. A beautiful marriage of motif and form is the ideal. Over many years I have experimented with various ceramic embellishment techniques and materials. By far my favorite and signature style is the piped and flooded method. The motifs are outlined with a liquid clay (slip) and applied like cake icing (piped). Areas are then flooded with underglazes or layered to blend and create depth of color and lovely subtle shading. The final steps involve several coats of a clear glaze and then firing in a ceramic kiln. The resulting relief effect achieved by this method is very tactile, inviting touch and adds dimensional relief to the finished object. Art galleries, showrooms and fairs have all seen the likes of my creations along with national publications and awards bestowed. Over a 15 year period many an interested student had passed through the doors of my studio to practice and learn this ancient art form.
